Mazak Mill - Used CNC Mill
Mazak is a leading manufacturer of CNC milling machines worldwide, and as such, they have hundreds of models under a wide range of series names that have changed throughout the years. Mills may be classified as follows: Multi-tasking, 5-Axis, Vertical machining centers, Horizontal machining centers, and turning centers.
Multi-Tasking: Mazak CNC Mill
A multi-tasking Mazak CNC mill can combine several different cutting processes. The machine may turn, mill drill, tap, and deep-hole bore, hob on one machine. This one and done approach to CNC machining saves time because operations are completed on one CNC machine instead of multiple machines. A very advanced form of multitasking provided by Mazak CNC machinery is Hybrid Multi-Tasking which also combines additive technologies. A Mazak mill designed for multi-tasking can significantly reduce production lead-times and part costs.
What are the Benefits of a 5-Axis Mazak CNC Mill Compared to 3+2 Machining?
Mazak 5-axis CNC mills can produce parts in an almost infinite number of sizes and shapes. On a Mazak 5-axis machine, the cutting tool moves across not only the X, Y, and Z linear axis, but it rotates on the A and B axis to approach a workpiece from any direction. With simultaneous 5-axis machining, all 5 axis engage at the same time. This provides more speed and flexibility as compared with 3 + 2 machining, in which the machine executes a 3-axis milling program with the cutting tool locked into a tilted position using its two rotational axis. In 5-axis positional machining, the cutting tool is oriented to a fixed position, instead of continuously moving.
What are the Types of Vertical Mazak CNC Mills?
Mazak Mill Series | Spindle Speed | Spindle Connections | ATC | CNC Type |
---|---|---|---|---|
Mazak VC | 10K - 20K RPM | CAT 40, BT40, HSK-63s | 18 - 60 Tools | 3 Axis, 5 Axis and 2 Pallet Changers |
Mazak VCN | 15K - 20K RPM | CAT40, CAT50, BT40, HSK-63 | 30 - 60 Tools | 3 Axis, 5 Axis and 2 Pallet Changers |
Mazak VTC | 6K - 20K RPM | CAT40, CAT40/BIG PLUS, BT40, CAT50 | 24 - 48 Tools | 3 Axis, 4 Axis rotary |
A Vertical Machining Center (VMC) has a spindle with a vertical orientation. Mazak vertical mills offer a range of series to cover multiple applications. The VC series has spindle speeds from 10K to 20K, automatic tool changers (ATC) from 18 to 60 tools and various axis configurations. Mazak currently offers the following vertical machining centers under the INTEGREX model name in 2018; e-Ramtec, e-V, and i-V and i. Many used Mazak machines available today are from the earlier Integrex e-Series. The VCN series features a moving table design, while the VTC (vertical traveling column series) is a fixed table design.
What are the Types of Horizontal Mazak CNC Mills?
Mazak Mill Series | Pallet Size | Spindle Connections | Tool Capacity | Spindle Speed |
---|---|---|---|---|
Mazak HC | 400 - 500 MM | CAT 40, CAT40/BIG Plus | 84 Tools | 12K - 20K RPM |
Mazak HCN | 400 - 1250MM | CAT40, CAT50, HSKA63, HASK-A100 | 348 Tools | 6K - 30K RPM |
Mazak HCR | 500 - 630 MM | CAT40, CAT40/BIG PLUS, HSK-A63 | 348 Tools | 12K - 30K RPM |
Mazak Horizontal machining or milling is typically used for machining larger parts. It relies on a spindle that is parallel to the ground floor. Horizontal machining centers allow for a two-pallet changer integration to facilitate unattended operation. Mazak offers at least 7 different series of horizontal mills and often custom produces them for their customers for specific applications. When buying a used horizontal Mazak CNC mill, youll want to know the kinds of parts it was designed to produce.
